TOPIC: TOUCHING JESUS IN THE CROWD

TEXT: MARK 5:24-34

MEM. VERSE: Mark 5:28, “She said, if I can just touch his clothes, I will get well”.

OBJECTIVE: To enable all to understand that whoever discovers the degree of power that is present in Jesus will like to benefit from it.

LESSONS:

  1. TOUCHING JESUS WITH A REASON MATTERS
As Jesus went about doing good, the crowd also followed him and pressed him all over, but none was healed amongst them except a woman with an issue of blood for twelve years, who had spent all she had on Doctors without cure. While the crowd surrounded him and watched, she came to the scene after hearing about Jesus and said, “If I can touch his garments, I shall be cured”. Thus she touched him and fell back to the crowd healed.
Notice that before she touched Jesus, she had first confessed it. And when she worked the talk, it paid off for her. Unlike the crowd that pressed him all over without a purpose.
  2. THE REACTION OF JESUS TO THE WOMAN
Jesus, on noticing however, that, power had left him, said, “Who touched me”. Peter then rebuked him for his remarks, wondering if he was not feeling the constant pushing and touches of the large crowd that surrounded him. But he replied, “I know what i am saying, for power has left me”. So the woman came out of the crowd and trembled before Jesus. And he said to her, “Your faith has made you well, go in peace, and be healed of your disease”.
This implies that, whenever you are healed by Jesus, don’t hide in the crowd. But come to him in appreciation and he will heal you from all diseases including your sins..

3 . THE CROWD AND THEIR MISSION
What actually did the crowd want from Jesus? Could it be they did not know what they wanted? But Jesus knew what they wanted. Hence, he told them point blank that, you don’t seek me because of the word that can give you healing and eternal life but for perishable things that cannot profit you (John 6:26-27).
Do not belong to the crowd who represent faithless and non serious worshipers who think that wishes are horses but do not know that faith in the word of God is key receiving miracles from Christ.

CONCLUSION
It is good to leave the crowd and get what you want in Christ lest they overshadow you with failure. Jairus, the Synagogue leader, Zaccheaus, the tax collector and blind Bartimaus etc, overcame the crowd that opposed them by faith and got their deliverance from Christ.
You too can learn from them and believe the word for your salvation.
