TOPIC: JESUS’ DEATH AND RESURRECTION BROUGHT TOTAL SALVATION
TEXT : Mathew 27: 50-54 MEM. VERSE: Mathew 27:52, “And the graves were opened: and many bodies of the saints which slept arose” (kjv).
OBJECTIVE: To help believers understand that Christ’s death has given us total freedom.
LESSONS:
1. THE UNIQUENESS OF THE CHRISTIAN FAITH
All religions on earth have their founding fathers, disciples and books / scriptures, stipulating their beliefs and modes of worship. But the Christian faith is unique because of the immaculate conception of its founder, Jesus, his lifestyle, death and resurrection. No other founder has ever lived like him and resurrected after death. This is why the salvation of Jesus’ followers is sure because they believed in him as their Saviour who died on the cross for their sake. Have you believed in him for your freedom?
2. THE LIBERATION OF THE DEAD SAINTS IN THE GRAVE
Notice that those that came out of the graves after his resurrection were Saints. How come they were held by the power of the grave all those years? This is because he needed to die and pay for their freedom with his blood. For it is written, “For this purpose the Son of God came so that he can destroy the works of darkness”. (1 John 3:8b). Jesus fulfilled this and took them into the city. Are you in some kind of spiritual grave? Cry no more! For Jesus will equally set you free from it if you believe by faith (Ezekiel 37:12).
3. THE COMING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The ascension of Christ into heaven helped the believers to receive the Holy Spirit; which reminds them of His free benefits for them. (John 16:7; 1 Cor. 2:12). But due to lack of the Spirit in some, many do not know how to get these benefits which Jesus paid for and said…”it is finished”. (John 19:30). So they grope in the dark, seeking for them in wrong places where they are duped by false preachers. Having the Spirit will stop Satan from deceiving people further not to know their rights in Christ. CONCLUSION: Jesus paid for all on the cross and gave us victory. (Eph. 4:8). Therefore, let us walk in this dominion, preaching this gospel truth to all.
